I have the privilege to kick off Vision Point Systems’ inaugural VPS Golf Classic on Friday, June 24th at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton, VA. We have the honor of organizing our first ever tournament to benefit our customer WhyHunger, a non-profit organization that empowers local communities around the world to meet the nutritional needs of the less fortunate.

Founded in 1975, WhyHunger sees hunger as a symptom of broader social inequities that exist in the world. Therefore, their approach to helping provide access to nutrition involves addressing the root causes of hunger, such as discrimination and restricted land access. As a member of the Global Network on the Right to Food, they work in conjunction with local grassroots groups to provide nutrition education, job training, and access to resources for food production. They also work with broader social movements to push governments to do more for the rights of the disenfranchised.

Toward these ends, WhyHunger conducts Hungerthon fundraising campaigns every year to raise funds and awareness to help these global communities. They also operate the WhyHunger Hotline to provide emergency food assistance in the U.S. Both the Hungerthon campaign and the Hotline use a contact center to take donors’ pledges and people calling in for food assistance. WhyHunger contracted VPS in the fall of 2020 to build their cloud-based contact center using Twilio’s Flex and Studio platform. Twilio Flex enables rapid deployment of contact centers almost anywhere in the world, for agents working remotely as well as on premise. VPS continues to support WhyHunger’s contact center to ensure reliability and availability for the Hungerthon campaigns and Hotline.

Since the inception of Vision Point Systems, we’ve sought work with customers that bring about positive change both here and abroad. As technology workers, we are keenly aware of the opportunities information technology has brought to its practitioners. We believe the benefits of technology must be inclusive in improving the lives of all people. VPS’s twenty year history includes examples of this initiative, such as the development of a risk management communications system for a client that provides life saving cancer drugs, an emergency response communications system for a non-profit serving communities in the developing world that do not have a government funded 911 system, and a key piece of the CDC Vaccines.gov program technology that gives non-English speakers the means to obtain information about where to receive Covid vaccines. Furthermore, we’ve partnered with Twilio to support dozens of 501(c)(3) organizations in recent years using Twilio’s omnichannel communications framework.

The VPS Golf Classic is a fun way we will support non-profits’ missions by raising funds to help more people gain access to equal opportunities and life-enhancing services to reach their full potential. Each of our lives can only improve when more people are able to contribute to the well-being of our communities. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors for their generous backing; without them, this event wouldn’t be possible.

We hope you will join us to celebrate and support WhyHunger’s mission while having some fun on the green.
